What are Craps?

Last Updated on

Craps is a popular dice game typically played in casinos, as well as in informal settings. The game involves players making wagers on the outcome of the roll, or a series of rolls, of a pair of six-sided dice.

The game is played on a specially designed table that features various betting areas. Players can place bets on different outcomes related to the dice rolls. Two six-sided dice are used in the game. The shooter must roll both dice, and they should land within the designated area of the table.

Players take turns being the shooter. A player can volunteer to shoot, or it may rotate around the table after each round. Before rolling, players must place their bets on the pass line, don’t pass line, or other available betting options. The first roll of the dice is known as the come-out roll. This roll determines how the game will proceed.

If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, all pass line bets win. However, If the shooter rolls a 2, 3, or 12 (collectively known as “craps”), all pass line bets lose.  If any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10) is rolled, that number becomes the “point.”

There are also different types of bets in craps. The Pass Line Bet is an even-money bet made on the come-out roll. Wins on a 7 or 11 and loses on a 2, 3, or 12. Don’t Pass Line Bet is the opposite of the pass line bet. Wins on a 2 or 3 (with 12 being a tie) and loses on a 7 or 11. Come Bets are made after the come-out roll when a point has been established. Similar rules apply as with pass line bets. Its opposite is the Don’t Come Bets, which involves winning on 2 or 3 and losing on 7 or 11.

Craps can accommodate up to 20 players at once, making it a social game where participants can cheer for the shooter.
