A casino employee responsible for managing the gaming table, dealing cards, and managing bets. Croupiers are essential to the operation of both online and physical casinos.
Croupiers have a variety of responsibilities, including explaining game rules to beginners, ensuring all players follow the rules, and directing gameplay while creating an engaging atmosphere. They manage the game’s progress by maintaining conversation with players, calculating and distributing payouts, and watching for cheating.
Additionally, croupiers manage bets, deal cards, spin the roulette wheel, throw the roulette ball, mark winning numbers, and clear losing bets from the table.
Croupiers are experts in games of chance, such as roulette, card games (blackjack, stud poker, and Texas hold ’em), and craps. To become a croupier, one may need a qualification in hospitality and must apply for a personal functional licence (PFL) from the Gambling Commission. This requires agreeing to an electronic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to ensure no criminal record.
